University of Puerto Rico in Carolina Offers Twenty Free Short Courses in the Area of ​​Hotel and Restaurant Management

Carolina, Puerto Rico- The School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration (School) of the University of Puerto Rico in Carolina (UPRCa), offers short courses under the proposal with federal funds from the Department of Economic Development (“EDA”), with the in order to promote the economic development of the Caribbean.

This important project represents an excellent alternative for hotel and restaurant management students and the community in general to be trained. Participants will have the opportunity to strengthen their skills and knowledge in the principles and skills of global hotel management; understand and apply customer service skills, demonstrate effective bilingual communication (Spanish and English), culinary knowledge, managerial skills, among many other skills to develop.

“Our objective is to continue developing the most qualified human capital that promotes the economic development of the country. These training sessions for the community in general respond to the needs of the region's economic sector, specifically the hotel area. The hospitality industry requires from the Academy a greater integration with its needs, which includes training its personnel to strengthen a sector that is in full development. We invite students, employees of the hospitality industry and the community in general to participate in this valuable opportunity for personal and professional development”, indicated the rector of UPR Carolina, doctor José I. Meza Pereira.

Dr. Alan R. Rodríguez Pérez, Professor at the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management and Principal Director of the Caribbean Hospitality CARES Academy, described the program as an exceptional opportunity for students of the School, employees of the hotel industry in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands or those who aspire to be part of this industry. “Once again, the UPR demonstrates its commitment to the academic and economic development of the country. The essential tools that we will be offering to the participants will allow them to function in this valuable profession. EDA is betting on the economic development of Puerto Rico and the fundamental role of the UPR as an educational center, to achieve it”.

For his part, Dr. Felipe González González, co-director of the project and faculty at the School, emphasized the quality and relevance of the training that has been created and is offered as part of the project's catalog of free short courses. . “We are in direct communication with the managers of the hotel industry; precisely the topics of courses that are offered, arise from their needs and challenges”. "The Caribbean is in great need of skilled personnel to enter this exciting profession."

The offer of free courses will continue on November 21, 2022. The project will have sections of short courses, every four weeks, until July 15, 2023. The teaching modalities include face-to-face and distance courses. Applicants to work in the economic sector of hospitality, students of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration of the UPRCa, staff of hostels and food and beverage operations may participate.
